About The Brant
Located on the waterfront with sweeping skyline views, The Brant Event Space is a modern, light filled venue suited for everything from intimate gatherings to large-scale events. The design is clean and open, making it easy to shape the space around your event, while on-site solar and battery storage are thoughtfully integrated into how the building operates adding a meaningful sustainability element to the experience.
The Brant is part of Solar One, a nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental education, workforce training, and advancing clean energy solutions across New York City. Every event held here directly supports that mission, helping to fund programs that empower communities, expand access to green jobs, and drive a more sustainable future.
The space itself is rooted in a site with a long and evolving relationship to energy. A century ago, this area, once part of the Gashouse District, was home to coal gas production, an early form of distributed energy.
Over the years, Solar One has continued to expand its impact from launching Solarize Brooklyn to help homeowners adopt rooftop solar, to leading recovery efforts after Superstorm Sandy with mobile solar generators, and advancing programs that make solar energy more accessible across the city. These initiatives have shaped policy, supported workforce development, and strengthened community resilience.
After decades of industrial use and eventual abandonment, the site was reimagined in the early 2000s when Solar One was founded to manage Stuy Cove Park, the city’s first all-native plant park, and to build an environmental education center. Its original structure, known as The Shack, was a pioneering project: the first standalone solar-powered building with battery storage in Manhattan. It served as both a classroom and a gathering space, hosting workshops, performances, and community events.
In September 2025, the new Solar One Environmental Education Center opened within the reimagined Stuy Cove Park, now part of the East Side Coastal Resiliency project designed to protect lower Manhattan from future flooding. The Brant Event Space is a natural extension of this work, a place where people can gather, celebrate, and connect within a space that actively contributes to a more sustainable city.
When you host your event at The Brant Event Space, you are directly supporting the mission of Solar One. Your event becomes part of a larger ecosystem of change, helping to build a more resilient, sustainable future.
